intent
At the Met museum in New York and at other art museums around the world, there are numerous fragments of ancient statues on display; sometimes temporarily shrouded in protective plastic. These photographs approach each statue as a new creation; as if their covered or broken form is the original intent of the artist.
Origin stories and context for an object are often lost, destroyed, ignored or obscured. Even so, "Some of the most beautiful things that exist are just pieces of things." (Wall text for Colossal Torso III, by Leon Golub. Leon Golub: Raw Nerve, February 6 through May 27, 2018, Met Breuer, New York)
